WESTERN CRETE

Crete is an island of unique contrasts. Sea and mountain. Worldliness and peace. Authentic tradition and modern rhythms of life. Western Crete harmonically unites all the authentic combinations offering you a complete experience of particular natural beauty, history and culture. Driving towards the West, each turn the road takes offers you landscapes with blue water stretching under the shade of majestic mountains. First stop is the Arkadi Monastery, or otherwise known as the holiest symbol of Cretan resistance and sacred place where in 1866 men, women and children left their last breath. They chose to be burned alive and die instead of being killed by Turkish invaders. Reaching Rethymnon of the Venetian architecture and eastern order, the magnificent views of the picturesque old city with the narrow alleyways, the sandy beaches and the cosmopolitan shore will steal your heart right away. Continuing the tour, Chania of the sun and colors welcomes us. The municipal market is right at the centre of the city. It has been listed as a preserved monument by the Ministry of Culture and Civilization. The Venetian port and the famous Light House as well as all the rest of the sites of interest and little picturesque corners will give you the opportunity for wonderful walks, food and shopping.
